Punk Vs Jericho – How it should have been.

You might be able to sense the sarcasm in this statement but, I just love how creative the WWE is being. Let’s take a match from Wrestlemania XXVIII (28) and do it all over again at “Payback” this Sunday. CM Punk has been MIA since he walked off Monday Night Raw, 8 days after losing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 29. The way they are bringing him back is absolutely stupid, he hasn’t been on TV at all during the build up to the match, not even “via satellite”, not to mention they are putting him a match he’s already done, not making it any different than before.

CM Punk has stated on many occasions that he is a very goal oriented guy, once he does something he moves on to the next thing. He has also said that he gets bored quickly once he’s accomplished what he set out to do, so what does the WWE do to bring him back from his leave of absence? Put him into a story line that he’s already done. One of Chris Jericho’s catch phrases is “I am the best in the world at what I do”, while CM Punk says, “I am the Best in the world”. At Wrestlemania 28 they had a “Best in the world” Vs “Best in the world” match, to determine who the best really was. CM Punk ultimately won the match to become “The Best In The World”

There was a lot of build up to the match between Punk and Jericho, which made the match interesting and must see, but this time around, Punk isn’t on Raw at all, he’s usually sitting in a ball park during Raw, and Paul Heyman fills in for him. Which takes away all the magic that goes into building a match like this.

What WWE should have done is, during the Fandango Vs Chris Jericho matches (Which Jericho lost most of) have CM Punk start poking fun at Jericho for not being the best at what he does, and then have Jericho try to attack Punk, only to get beaten down. Then the next week on Raw, have Jericho attack Punk and cut a promo on him about how he’s the best ever. Then later in the same episode of Raw have Punk come out, showing the “battle wounds” and cut a promo on Jericho, about how Punk was the champion for 434 days, the longest in the modern era and having already beat him at mania, then have Jericho come out and challenge Punk to a match at Payback, ending with something like, “You will never, *long stretched out* ever, be the same again”, but have Punk decline the match since he already beat him and have Punk say something about how Jericho is beneath him.

The following week on Raw, have Jericho come out and run down Punk, calling him a coward and go on about how “the best in the world” is scared of losing again. Then start a mini storyline about how his loss to Undertaker is eating Punk alive and is driving him crazy. Jericho would then go through the evening torturing Punk, by placing “signs” of the Undertaker around every corner, finally ending the episode with Punk breaking down mentally.

At the start of the following weeks Raw, have Punk and Paul Heyman come out and have Paul run down Jericho for “breaking” his client, during this rant, have Undertakers music hit, fog and all, but then have all the lights go black, moments later when the lights come back on, have Jericho standing in the ring taunting Punk, they start brawling and moments later the lights go out again and when they come back on Punk is still brawling but Jericho is gone and Heyman is on the mat after Punk at mistakenly attacked him. Punk then grabs a mic and demands a match with Jericho at Payback saying, “You may have thought it was funny to taunt me last week, but Jericho, Payback is a bitch! You want a match with me? You got it!”

And that’s how it’s done. THAT would have been a match I would be absolutely crazy to miss. But I digress, there is no doubt the match between Jericho and Punk will be an awesome match, they are both extremely talented guys and know their way around the ring.

I just wish that WWE would have done a better job building up this match.

Wrestlemania 29 Predictions

Wrestlemania is This Sunday at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. An estimated crowed of 80,000+ is expected to be on hand. Here is a list of the matches scheduled to take place: (as always, card is subject to change)

No. Match Stipulations
Pre-show Wade Barrett (c) vs. The Miz Singles match for the Intercontinental Championship
1 The Rock (c) vs. John Cena Singles match for the WWE Championship
2 Alberto Del Rio (w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) (c) vs. Jack Swagger (w/ Zeb Colter) Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
3 The Undertaker vs. CM Punk (w/ Paul Heyman) Singles match
4 Sheamus, Randy Orton & Big Show vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) Six-man tag team match
5 Ryback vs. Mark Henry Singles match
6 Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan) (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston (w/ AJ Lee) Tag team match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
7 Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Triple H (w/ Shawn Michaels) No Holds Barred match; if Triple H loses, he must retire.
8 Chris Jericho vs. Fandango Singles match
9 Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Tensai) and The Funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi) vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) and The Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki Bella) Eight–person mixed tag team match
(c) – refers to the champion heading into the match

Here is how I expect to see these matches go down.

  1. The Miz beats Wade Barret and takes the IC Belt. (Result: The Miz wins with the Figure Four Leg Lock)
  2. Rock beats Cena. (Then drops the belt, possibly at Extreme Rules) (Result: Cena Wins)
  3. Del Rio holds on to the World Title over Swagger, but Dolph Ziggler cashes in his Money in the Bank and defeats Del Rio. (Result: Del Rio Wins. No Ziggler)
  4. CM Punk will defeat The Undertaker and end the iconic 20-0 streak, most likely ending career of The Undertaker. (Result: Undertaker Wins 21-0)
  5. Sheamus, Orton and Big Show, defeat The Shield. (Result: Shield Wins)
  6. I’m still unsure how the Ryback vs. Mark Henry match will go.. I kinda have a feeling it may be a squash match and only last mere minutes. My best guess though, Ryback loses to Mark Henry. (Result: Mark Henry Wins)
  7. Team Hell No will retain the belts against Dolph and Big E. (Result: Team Hell No Retains)
  8. I’ve always been a Triple H fan, so I’m a little biased. But I have two sides here, I want to see Triple H defeat Brock, however seeing as Triple H is now a corporate guy, I know Brock will beat Triple H and that will end his in ring career making way for his Corporate career. (Result: TripleH Wins)
  9. Jericho will defeat Fandango. (Result: Fandango wins)
  10. Tons of Funk will lose to Team Rhodes Scholars. (At least I hope they do. the gimmick they gave Tensai is retarded. Both Brodus Clay and Tensai were orignally billed as big monsters who could destroy anything are now, dancing idiots.. ) (THIS MATCH WAS SCRATCHED!!!!!)

I will be doing my best to live blog Wrestlemania 29 this Sunday. It starts at 7PM EST / 4PM PST

Wrestling and Drugs.

So, on the heels of Jack Swagger being pulled over after a Smackdown taping in Mississippi, and being charged with DUI, speeding and possession of marijuana, a lot of people are talking about the punishment for Jack Swagger (Jacob Hager, Jr.).

Now, Per the WWE Abuse Policy, (Here) it says in section 15b that a positive test for marijuana carries a $2500 fine, which is pretty minimal as a punishment. However, what really brings up a questions is section 14.

14. DISCIPLINE FOR VIOLATION OF LAW

Any WWE Talent, who is arrested, convicted or who admits to a violation of law relating to use, possession, purchase, sale or distribution of drugs will be in material breach of his/her contract with WWE and subject to immediate dismissal.

In addition to the penalties that may be imposed pursuant to his/her contract with WWE, a violation of this Section 14 may also be treated as a positive test for drugs prohibited by this Policy and therefore, subject to the penalties set forth in Section 15 of this Policy.

So, if WWE decides to uphold this part of the policy, Swagger could be done. But fining them $2500 dollars when they mess up, is pretty minimal, considering most of them make a lot of money. The punishment should be closer to $10,000, that way, if they think about doing anything stupid, it will be on their mind they have to pay a hefty fine if that get into trouble.

Jack Swagger isn’t the first guy to be in trouble for this. Here is a lost of guys who have been tagged for substance abuse.

  • Chavo Guerrero – 2 strikes (Now working for TNA)
  • Drew Hankinson, a/k/a Festus – 1 strike (now works for TNA)
  • Randy Orton – 2 strikes
  • Darren Matthews, a/k/a William Regal – 2 strikes
  • Charlie Haas – 1 strike (Works for ROH now)
  • Nick Nemeth, a/k/a Dolph Ziggler – 1 strike
  • Adam Copeland, a/k/a Edge – 1 strike (Retired)
  • Jeff Hardy – 2 strikes (Works for TNA now. had a major drug bust right after leaving WWE)
  • James Yun, a/k/a Jimmy Wang Yang – 1 strike (Works for TNA now)
  • John Hennigan, a/k/a John Morrison – 1 strike (Works the independents)
  • Shoichi Funaki, a/k/a Kung Fu Naki – 1 strike (No longer works for WWE)
  • Harry Smith, a/k/a David Hart Smith – 1 strike (No longer with WWE)
  • Gregory Helms – 1 strike (No longer with WWE)
  • Ryan Reeves, a/k/a Ryback – 1 strike
  • Oscar Gutierrez Rubio a/k/a Rey Mysterio – 2 strikes

WWE never releases the reason for suspension, but normally, a strike and suspension is given for steroids or some other performance enhancing drug. Marijuana and Alcohol both carry a $2500 fine, but no suspension or other punishment.

Portland Wrestling Uncut – Jan 8th

On January 8th, 2013 Portland Wrestling Uncut held a live show. My wife and I attended the show. It was a really good show, here are a few pictures I got with some of the wrestlers. I unfortunately didn’t keep track of all the matches, however The Blanchard’s faced Exile and Wade Hess, Their manager the Grappler used a boot to hit Bubba Blanchard and Wade Hess got the pin-fall but the referee caught wind of the boot incident and reversed his decision. STILL THE CHAMPS!

Davari faced Big Ugly in a match with a one hour time limit, about 15 minutes into the match, there was a spot where Davari pulled the ref down to the mat, the ref landed wrong and blood started pouring out of his nose, he called for a disqualification and named Big Ugly the winner but Davari kept the belt due to DQ.

Portland Wrestling Uncut!

Founded in 1925 by Herb Owen the original Portland Wrestling was a tradition every Saturday night in the Pacific Northwest! Broadcast from the Portland Sports Arena on KPTV 12, a lot of great wrestlers made their way through the region.

Until the mid 1980’s there were Wrestling Territories, each one had a promoter and a had a regional Heavyweight Champion. Almost all the territories were a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and they had The World Heavyweight Champion that would travel through the Territories defending the belt.

Something that Most people don’t realize today, is that Vince McMahon and the WWF/E destroyed this system when Vince took the WWF nationally with Wrestlemania, several of the Territory owners even threatened Vince with Death if he put them out of business.

Pacific Northwest Wrestling (Also known as Portland Wrestling) was run the Owen family for several generations, I remember going to Uncle Milts Pipe Organ Pizza and watching the Wrestlers. Until 1991 when they lost their Television outlet with KPTV, Portland Wrestling was the regional powerhouse of wrestling, with such talent as: Ric Flair, Andre the Giant, Stan Stasiak, WWE Hall of Famer Mil Mascaras, WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper, Mr. Fuji, Chavo (Senior) and Gory Guerrero, Superstar Billy Graham, Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig and Larry Hennig, Rocky Johnson (The Rock’s Father), Scott Levy (Also known as Raven), Magnum T.A. , Gorilla Monsoon, Scott Norton, Pat Patterson, Tom Prichard, Harley Race, Buddy Rose, Dutch Savage, WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka, Greg Valentine, Jesse “The Body” Ventura,

It was during this time frame that Portland really became a stomping ground for Wrestling Elite, the Who’s Who of the Wrestling World.

Portland Wrestling, like all other territories in the late 80’s and early 90’s lost their appeal when Vince McMahon and the WWF machine were taking over. In 1992 when Don Owen retired from Wrestling, Sandy Barr bought the rights to the company and continued putting on Wrestling shows at his Flea Market.

It was a sad day when Professional Wrestling in Portland ceased to exist. There was for a little while a “New” Portland Wrestling that aired on the CW, but was short lived.

WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper is bringing back Portland Wrestling to the air waves, with KPTV giving Studio space to Portland Wrestling and air time Saturday Evening, which was the traditional spot for Wrestling for a really long time. I will hopefully be able to go a live blog for Portland Wrestling Uncut tonight, After the World Series.

Get ready Portland! Wrestling is back!
